Cranbrook, BC (March 24, 2025) – Large concerts, festivals, shows, and community events are proving to have a positive impact on the community-at-large and creating increased revenue for the City of Cranbrook.
Most recently, the City hosted Monster Trucks at Western Financial Place for the first time since 2009. Bringing in nearly 550 cubic metres of dirt sourced from the College of the Rockies 30th Avenue Road project, the trucks were a “Monster” success with nearly 5,500 attendees across the three days of shows generating a net revenue of $24,999.
“The community has proven once again that live entertainment and large events are welcome with great support from the local community,” says Trevor Thors, Director of Recreation and Culture. ”The total profit from the event was just about $50,000 shared equally with the City of Cranbrook and partner Saskatchewan Entertainment Group.”
In an update to Council at their regular meeting on Monday, March 24, 2025, staff highlighted that since 2023 the City has had 12 large-scale events at Western Financial Place, netting $162,144 in total revenue and seeing more than 30,000 locals, tourists, and patrons take in the variety of events (excludes Spirit of the Rockies and Shooting Star Carnival attendance). The 12 large-scale events were either full facility bookings by an outside provider (3), a partnered promotion (4), or City-managed events (5).

“Hands down, a huge shout out is deserved to our staff and community volunteers that support us making these events a massive success,” added Thors.
Recreation and Culture is continuing to look at bringing in more large, viable, profitable, and sustainable special events to Western Financial Place.
